1st Winter YOG Innsbruck 2012 to open on Friday
Some 1,000 of the world's most talented 15-18 year-old winter athletes are convening in Innsbruck (AUT) from 14th to 22nd January to embrace the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship as participants in the first edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
The Opening Ceremony for Innsbruck 2012 will take place on Friday 13th January inside the historic Bergisel Stadium - home to the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympic Opening Ceremonies and ski jump competitions. More than 1000 athletes and 750 team officials have confirmed their presence in Innsbruck to experience the first ever Winter YOG, which in addition to the sports events also features the Culture & Education Program (CEP). For these Games, Innsbruck will see action by athletes from nations as far away as Eritrea, the Cayman Islands, Nepal and the Philippines. The participation of these nations marks the involvement of a total of 70 National Olympic Committees spanning all five continents.
