Road to Val di Fiemme 2013, and beyond! In a little more than 18 months, Val di Fiemme and the Trentino region will be hosting the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013. During the closing ceremony of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo the delegation from Trentino already received the FIS flag and the official countdown, numbering exactly 566 days today, started towards the third FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme after the previous editions in 1991 and 2003. The building work at the Cross-Country Stadium in Lago di Tesero and at the Ski Jumping hills in Predazzo are well underway and the venues are certain to be finished in time before the 2011/12 winter season starts, with several test events scheduled in all the Nordic disciplines including, for the first time, the ladies' Ski Jumping. A total of three weekends of FIS Nordic World Cup action are in store in the Fiemme Valley next season alone. Beside the sport elements, the OC is working intensively to present Val di Fiemme and Trentino to the spectators in a unique way. The details of the event schedule are not finalized yet but the visitors can expect a full program that will include something for everybody. As the first highlight, the opening ceremony will take place at the famous Piazza Duomo in Trento on 20th February 2013. The evening will kick off with the official hymn, sung and played by the members of some 5,000 groups from the entire province. An international star will also be involved in the ceremony but who it is, remains a secret. Legacy is another important concept for the Fiemme team: the facilities being upgraded for the 2013 event will not only be used at the annual World Cup events in the three Nordic disciplines but also during the 2014 FIS Nordic Junior and Under 23 World Ski Championships as well as at the 2015 FIS Roller Skiing World Championships. Fiemme 2013 Organizing Committee President Pietro De Godenz commented: "We are now entering a new amazing period of great events in Val di Fiemme. Three FIS World Championships in a row, plus the final stage of the FIS Tour de Ski scheduled on the Alpe Cermis up to 2017, as well as the Marcialonga race, the Topolino Cross-Country Skiing trophy and all the World Cup and Continental Cup races in the years to come. We are definitely proud and happy of all these achievements, and we will be working hard not to disappoint anyone." Includes contributions by Fiemme 2013 |
