Roccaraso 2012 passes Final Inspection

Roccaraso 2012 passes Final Inspection

The final inspection for the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships 2012 in Roccaraso, scheduled for 1st-9th March, took place last week. Markus Waldner, FIS Continental Cup coordinator, conducted the final on-site inspection in Roccaraso and Rivisondoli in the Alto Sangro region of central Italy together with representatives of the local Organizing Committee and the Italian National Ski Association, FISI.

All three sites were inspected to check on the status of the outstanding construction works and other preparations. The piste Lupo will host the technical events and the Direttissima di Monte Pratello the speed events, whilst la Direttissima di Pizzalto is reserved for slalom and giant slalom training and the parallel team event.

The work on fiber-optic and electrical cabling, as well as preparing the timing installations and a tunnel in the Lupo finish area have all progressed according to the plan and will conclude as scheduled in early December. The new snow-making system on the Direttissima di Monte Pratello has also been installed and all structural works in the start area concluded.

On the administrative side the work in the race office is well underway with preparations for competition management, accreditation, accommodation and other services. The booking deadline for the participants is set at 1st January 2012.

On the basis of the Final Inspection, the only thing missing for another successful edition of the FIS Alpine Junior Worlds in Italy at the moment is the snow. The official snow control will take place 15 days prior to the start of event. For more information visit the event website at www.roccaraso2012.org
