FIS World Cups in action in Norway and Sweden

Scandinavia provided the stage for FIS World Cup action last weekend with the FIS Cross-Country World Cup presented by Viessmann staging its opening weekend in Sjusjoen (NOR), the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup visited the Swedish capital for an impressive big air competition.

To the great joy of the local audience, the first World Cup events in Cross-Country had a very strong Norwegian flavor. In the ladies' individual race Marit Bjoergen took her 47th World Cup win, which puts her on top of the all-time rankings ahead of Bjoern Daehli who won 46 times in his career. In both of the relays, Team Norway took a double victory. The only non-Norwegian winner of the weekend was Swede Johan Olsson who dominated the men's opening in the individual start free technique race with a winning margin of 31,2 seconds ahead of Petter Northug (NOR) and Roland Clara (ITA).

In Stockholm, Niklas Mattsson claimed the first Swedish victory at Stadium Winterjam in the six years of contests in the Olympic stadium and additionally it was Mattsson's first career World Cup triumph too. The season's third big air is scheduled for 24 February 2012, in Quebec, Canada. However, the freestyle riders will also get a chance to collect points for the combined FIS Slopestyle-Big Air World Cup at the World Cup debut of Jasna (SVK) on 4th February 2012.
