Haiti Ski Association at 2012 FIS Congress

Haiti Ski Association at 2012 FIS Congress

Next to the larger National Ski Associations such as Austria, Canada, Switzerland and the USA, some smaller countries are amongst the 75 nations present at the 2012 FIS Congress in Korea, some of which just recently became FIS members or are applying for membership.

One of them is the Haiti Ski Association. Its President, Jean-Pierre Roy, 49, who himself started at the 2011 World Championships FIS World Ski Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen shared his impressions of the Congress and discussed their future plans:

FIS Newsflash: What are your impressions from Congress?

“This is my first Congress since the creation of the Haiti Ski Association in October 2010. The welcoming nature and assistance of FIS has provided us with a passion to continue the promotion of skiing sports in our country. One of our aims for this Congress is to meet with other NSA's especially those nations which do not naturally have snow and discuss about future potential collaboration projects.

FIS Newsflash: How has your National Ski Association developed since it came in place?

“With the establishment of the Haiti Ski Association, I am especially happy to say that I was able to share my experiences and inspire other small nations in Asia and the Americas to launch a National Ski Association in their respective countries. In more detail, I provided know-how and insight experience on how to establish a Ski Association from zero, proceed with the formalities and liaise with the FIS.“

FIS Newsflash: What does the future for the Haiti Ski Association look like?

“One of our largest short-term aims is to have a national ski team participating in the FIS Ski World Championships in Schladming 2013.
On the long run, the further improvement of our Ski Association as well as enhanced collaboration with other NSA’s remains our main focus.”
