Exceeding Expectations: 2nd World Snow Day
The first edition of World Snow Day exceeded expectations and set the bar very high in terms of the number of Organisers and level of participation. Whilst international events often see a decline during their 2nd edition, FIS is pleased to confirm that the 2nd edition of World Snow Day will see increased numbers and continued growth.
230 Organisers across 39 countries have registered events to celebrate all things snow on 20th January 2013. This is not yet the very final number of events as some registrations are still being finalised. Whilst the number of participants is more important, the number of events gives a good indication of the interest and health of the event. More than 200’000 people participated in the first edition on 22nd January 2012.
FIS Coordinator for Bring Children to the Snow Andrew Cholinski stated: “The Organisers of the events for the 2nd edition of World Snow Day have outdone themselves. The creativity displayed by them has been fantastic and the Organisers are already now certain to be one of the main stars of the show. It is a pleasure to be working with them all and we are excited to see the 2013 World Snow Day take place in just 18 days.”
FIS expects the 2nd edition of World Snow Day to create an even stronger foundation for Organisers around the world to help bring children to the snow. The overall FIS campaign seeks to ensure that snow sports remain relevant for the younger generations and with the recent launch of the improved FIS SnowKidz website (fis-snowkidz.com) and a new Bring Children to the Snow website (www.bringchildrentothesnow.com), it continues to develop well.
From 1st until 20th January 2013, the media campaign for World Snow Day will be underway. With great thanks to the media partners Eurosport, Infront Sports & Media and the European Broadcasting Union, the World Snow Day promotional trailer will be broadcast globally. Click here to view it.
