Kot wins Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix

Maciej Kot scored a home victory for Poland in last Saturday’s FIS Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix competition in Wisla (POL). The 21-year-old from Zakopane captured his victory on the new hill with 252.2 points ahead of Swiss’ Simon Ammann (245.3 points) and Austria’s Wolfgang Loitzl (243.7 points).

Close to 5,000 fans at the Adam-Malysz-Hill saw a fair competition and made it exciting times for the competing athletes. Simon Ammann confirmed: "The atmosphere at the hill was great! It is brilliant that fans can get close to the jumpers."

In the Team Competition, preceding the Individual event on Friday 19 July, the Slovenian team stood on top of the podium. Due to a floodlight failure, the competition was cancelled after the first round where Slovenia’s athletes Robert Hrgota, Peter Prevc, Robert Kranjec and Jurij Tepes jumped closely ahead (479.1 points) of the second-placed Polish team (477.9 points). Germany was the third team on the podium (474.4 points).

Despite new regulations demanding closer fitting ski jumping suits, no disqualifications were made at the Wisla Grand Prix. Austria’s Wolfgang Loitzl was satisfied: “I like the new rules and hope they will help me on my way to the top."

On 15th August, Courchevel (FRA) will be the second stage of the Summer Grand Prix series which will again showcase who is taking the lead this summer.
