140'000 tickets sold for Oslo 2011

140'000 tickets sold for Oslo 2011

49 days before the beginning of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo (NOR) the Oslo 2011 organizers are pleased to report that 140'000 tickets have already been sold. However, only the men's relay on 4th March is fully sold out. On all other days, there are still tickets left as the total number of tickets amounts to 300'000.

Oslo 2011 clearly promises to be the place to be from 23rd February until 6th March 2011. Even the legendary travel guide Lonely Planet has ranked it among the 10 best things to do in 2011. Oslo 2011 is ranked right alongside visiting the new 9/11 memorial in New York City and visiting the Indy 500, Indianapolis, USA, among others!

In the other news from Oslo, the Bank of Norway has issued a commemorative coin for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships at Holmenkollen. There will be 40'000 copies of the coin, each costing 475 Norwegian crowns. The coin will feature King Harald V on the foreside whilst the backside will present athletes in action demonstrating the values of brotherhood and cooperation. The coin will be launched on Saturday 8th January at the Annual Sports Gala in Hamar.

The Annual Sports Gala on Saturday 8th January will also see the launch of the official World Championship song in a live broadcast by the World Championships Host Broadcaster NRK and presented by Maria Haukaas Mittet. The song is entitled "Glorious."

"We are very happy with the official song. It is catchy and cheerful," says Tove Indgjerd, Head of Culture and Protocol at Oslo 2011.
