Record participation at 9th FIS Snowboard Worlds

With only a few days left to the official opening of the first FIS Snowboard World Championships on Spanish soil, the field of competitors is taking shape.

A record number of 370 participants coming from 44 countries have been registered so far with the most athletes coming from Canada (47). Switzerland (45), Austria (40), Russia (39), France (37), the US (34) and Italy (31), too, are sending big squads on a mission to gold. The smallest team has been signed in by Montenegro who will be represented at the Worlds in La Molina by Vuk Sarovic..

The 9th FIS Snowboard World Championships are not only a highlight due to the biggest registered field ever, but they are also a huge step for the freestyle Snowboarding scene with slopestyle added to the program for the first time in history. A total of 80 shredders (54 men and 26 ladies) have been entered to start.

The "traditional" events feature 55 entries for the big air, 108 (70 and 38) for the halfpipe, 116 (82 and 34) for the snowboard cross and 117 for the parallel events (68 and 49).

As part of the show several 2009 World Championship medalists from Gangwon (KOR) are aiming to defend their titles:
• BA: Markku Koski (FIN, Gold), Seppe Smits (BEL, Silver)
• HP: Jiayu Liu (CHN, Gold), Holly Crawford (AUS, Silver), Paulina Ligocka (POL, Bronze), Ryo Aono (JPN, Gold), Mathieu Crepel (FRA, Bronze)
• SBX: Helene Olafsen (NOR, Gold), Markus Schairer (AUT, Gold), Nick Baumgartner (USA, Bronze)
• PAR: Marion Kreiner (AUT, Gold), Fraenzi Maegert-Kohli (Gold), Doris Guenther (AUT, Silver), Patrizia Kummer (SUI, Bronze), Ekaterina Tudegesheva (RUS, Bronze), Benjamin Karl (AUT, Gold), Sylvain Dufour (FRA, Silver), Matthew Morison (CAN, Bronze), Patrick Bussler (GER, Bronze)

The exclusive TV broadcaster for La Molina 2011 in Europe is Eurosport which also features its Eurosport Player for live streaming. ORF has cleared rights for Austria. In addition, CBC (CAN) and Sky A (JPN) have also signed broadcasting contracts with the media rights holder Sunset & Vine.
