Head and Fischer lead Brand Rankings The ski manufacturers brand rankings of the FIS Alpine and Cross-Country World Cups provide interesting details about the ski brands that accompany the athletes all year long. This ranking is based on the results of the top six athletes in each World Cup event. Head racers won or placed on the podium in nine of the ten Alpine disciplines this season. The Head racing team claimed 66 podiums throughout the season (22 of them being victories) edging out Atomic to the number two position for the first time this millennium. By this measure, Head's strategy of contracting superstars seems to be paying off. Atomic suffered from early season ends to the Austrian stars Benjamin Raich and Marcel Hirscher through injury, as well as Aksel Lund Svindal switching to Head last summer. Compared to the 2009/10 season the Atomic racers accumulated 1710 points less, whilst Head captured 1210 points more. Rossignol came in third with a total of 21 podiums including 10 victories, losing 195 points compared to the 2009/10 season. Nevertheless, Rossignol still took first place in the men's slalom and ladies' giant slalom ranking. Fischer had to be content with fourth place in the overall despite having overall World Cup champion Ivica Kostelic. Head owes its win in the brand ranking mainly thanks to the ladies (4850 points), including Lindsey Vonn, who led the way with eight wins, Maria Riesch, Anja Paerson, Lizz Goergl and Anna Fenninger. While Head dominated the ladies' side, it was Atomic winning the men's overall ranking with 3300 points thanks to Michael Walchhofer, Carlo Janka, Benjamin Raich or Marcel Hirscher. You can find more details HERE. In Cross-Country, the 2010/2011 season was dominated by one brand in all the standings and that was Fischer. The Austrian ski manufacturer topped the overall ladies' and men's standing with 10480 points. The second most successful brand last season was Rossignol with 970 points while Madshus landed in third place with 755 points. Fischer also dominated the men's overall rankings with 5'080 points, thanks to such excellent racers as Petter Northug, Dario Cologna, Daniel Rickardsson, Lukas Bauer and many others. Also on the ladies' side Fischer won the most points (5'800 points). Fischer's team includes Marit Bjoergen (10 individual victories on her own!), Justyna Kowalczyk (Tour de Ski and Overall World Cup winner) Arianna Follis and Therese Johaug, just to mention a few. In the sprint ranking, too, it was Fischer that occupied the highest ranks both on ladies' and men's side. For more details click HERE. Contributed by Sandra Kühni |
