12th edition of FIS Carving Cup successfully concluded

It's been a thrilling FIS Carving Cup season that has just ended, now in its twelfth edition. The eleven Carving cup events were carried out at a high technical level with athletes of many different nations competing in front of enthusiastic viewers. This season, there was an international Final held in Abetone, Italy.

The number of competitions has doubled following the change of the race format a couple years ago and aided by the inclusion of speed carving featuring a single buoy per turn, larger turn radius (30 meters), more speed, notable inclinations and the result being determined only by the chronometric time. In slalom, compared to speed carving, tactical strategy is important as for every turn there are 3 buoys arranged in line. The outside one gives 5 points, the one in the middle gives 4 and the one inside gives 3 points.

In speed carving, the standings were won by Italian Thomas Bergamelli and Swiss Melanie Bürgener. Giancarlo Bergamelli (ITA) took the men's slalom cup standings whilst his teammate Stefania Burba was victorious on the ladies' side. With the two categories, there is now also a new combined ranking, which was won by Stefania Burba whilst in the men's category the overall went to Thomas Bergamelli, last year's Cup winner.
