Falun speeds up construction program

Falun speeds up construction program

The community of Falun is working hard to get construction works underway for the Falun 2015 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. "Now we really need to get our construction program moving at the Lugnet Ski Arena in Falun...Our goal is to have the ski jumps newly renovated and ready for jumping by the winter of 2013 at the latest", says Torkel Birgersson, World Championship representative with the Municipality of Falun.

"The ski jumpers - among them members of our new national team - must have a chance to get to know the facilities before the championships. And we also want to be able to hold ski jumping events before the World Championships so that we can fine-tune a new competition organization. So for that reason it's also good that we'll be continuing our construction program with hills for children and young people."

Recently Falun Municipality together with the World Championship organizers invited construction companies to an information meeting to present future visions and goals for the Lugnet Arena. The meeting was also designed to inspire those enterprises and business people that are potential investors in the arena and surroundings.
"Normally after presentations like this the audience says thank you and goodbye and leaves the building. But this time most of them lingered on, chatting in groups about what they could do to contribute to the future of the Lugnet Arena. Obviously this was a very interesting and exciting development for us," Torkel Birgersson continued.
By the end of June 2011, Falun Municipality representatives together with the World Championship organizers will be contacting construction enterprises that have shown an interest in being involved in one or more of the building projects that are to start at Lugnet. And straight after the summer holidays the process will continue to combine the best ideas that come from the enterprises into an actual plan of action.

"And best of all, our local politicians have provided financial backing that gives us plenty of elbow room to create an investment plan covering a period of several years," Torkel Birgersson concludes.
