One million for the Four-Hills Grand Slam

One million for the Four-Hills Grand Slam

Tickets for the 2011/12 Four-Hills-Tournament are more sought after this year than seldom before. In Austria the tickets are selling better than ever. "We have never seen that many tickets being sold in pre-sales," says Hannes Pichler, CEO of Ski Club Bischofshofen. Half of the tickets have already been sold for the Bischofshofen event. Four-Hills Tournament President Alfons Schranz can only echo the sentiments in Innsbruck: "We have sold more tickets than this time last year so we recommend the fans to hurry up to secure their tickets." In the past years, there have rarely been tickets available on the day of the event in Innsbruck.

The recent successes of German jumpers in Harrachov also bode well for the first two Tournament venues in Oberstdorf und Garmisch-Partenkirchen. "The phones keep ringing non-stop and the Print@Home-Ticket Service is going very well," says Stefan Huber, CEO of the Four-Hills-Tournament and Secretary General of the opening event in Oberstdorf.

This year‘s Four-Hills-Tournament will feature added excitement through the announcement of the Organizers to present a huge reward to commemorate the 60th edition of the famous series: Should a single athlete win all the four competitions in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen gewinnen, this ‘Grand-Slam' winner will receive an additional one million Swiss francs. So far the only jumper in history to win all four competitions was Germany's Sven Hannawald who performed the feat in the 2001/02 season.

In any case, the 60th Four-Hills-Tournament winner will be awarded additional prize money of 20'000 Swiss francs thanks to the extra support provided by the four Organizing Committees and the National Ski Associations of Germany and Austria.

In the past three years, the Austrian eagles have been unbeatable at the Four-Hills Tournament: Wolfgang Loitzl, Andreas Kofler and Thomas Morgenstern won the series between 2009-2011. In fact, together with teammate Gregor Schlierenzauer, they have won nine out of the last 12 daily competitions.
