Technical Course for Coaches in Armenia 2012

Technical Course for Coaches in Armenia 2012

Following the successful Technical Course for Armenian Alpine Coaches in 2009 as part of the IOC Olympic Solidarity Program, the second stage of the program was conducted in February 2012, again under the excellent lead of Werner Margreiter, former head coach of the Austrian men's alpine ski team and head of sports at the first Winter Youth Olympic Games Innsbruck 2012.

The course was organised in Tskhkadzor Ski Resort by the Armenian National Olympic Committee and the Armenian Ski Association. About twenty ambitious men and ladies from four regions took part in the six-day camp. Great snow conditions and blue sky allowed the future officials to benefit from the various activities. Besides on-snow practical training, there were daily interactive lectures in the seminar room. The course mainly focused on basic skills development of children and youth ski racers while emphasis was put on exercises to improve ski racing techniques and progression in giant slalom and slalom.

In addition, the local ski club was involved with their young members and received support from the Mountain Management. On the last day, a giant slalom race for the kids was organized and based on the great outcome, it was decided to held such a kids race every year from now on. The race will be named after Werner Margreiter who has significantly contributed to the local development of skiing.

All involved are convinced that the skiing development in Armenia is making great steps forward.
