Nordic Combined plans full calendar

Nordic Combined plans full calendar

The Nordic Combined meetings in Zürich had a number of items on the discussion table. One of the main focus areas was calendar planning for next season, including the Summer Grand Prix. This year, the summer series will already begin in July with competitions in Sochi (RUS). The traditional Central European summer events will then follow in August with Liberec (TBC), Oberwiesenthal, Val di Fiemme and Oberstdorf.

The provisional winter schedule currently foresees 25 competitions including two in the new venue of Erzurum (TUR) and four at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships where the team sprint will make its début. New for 2012/13, the season is set to kick off in Lillehammer on 23-24th November together with men's and ladies Ski Jumping, followed by the traditional Nordic Opening location of Kuusamo (FIN) a week later.

Concerning the penalty race, amendments have been proposed especially to the jumping part which is foreseen to follow the normal procedure in the future rather than to focus on jump length only. The ‘penalty' would be based on point differences after the jumping competition. The new jumping suits proposed for Ski Jumping would equally apply to Nordic Combined if approved.

The proposals will now be submitted to the National Ski Associations following the funnel procedure, and will be discussed by the Nordic Combined Committee again at its meetings during the FIS Congress and sent to the FIS Council in Korea for review and approval.
