Passing of Jenny Olsson (SWE), Inge Bråten (NOR), Robert Faure (FRA) FIS wishes to express its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of three personalities that passed away in the last week: Jenny Olsson (32) passed away on Sunday as a victim to cancer. Former top Cross-Country racer, she retired in 2006, gave birth to son Vidar in 2009 and fought hard until the end. Jenny was a member of the Swedish National Cross-Country team from 1998 until her retirement. Her best result was 5th place the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2003 in Val di Fiemme in the 15km classical technique mass start. She also scored two top 10 finishes in the World Cup and was a reliable force on the Swedish relay team over the years. Inge Bråten, former Norwegian national team coach Inge Bråten died aged 63 after short, serious illness. Inge Bråten is credited for bringing the Norwegian Cross-Country team back to the top. As Norway's head coach Bråten led his squad to 15 Olympic and World Championships gold medals. Inge Bråten was not only coach of the Norwegian squad but also led Team Sweden between 2005-2007 and the Canadian and Swiss Cross-Country skiers. He remained engaged in the world of Cross-Country Skiing until very recently. Robert Faure passed away at the age of 98 on 16th April. Former Chairman of the Downhill Slalom Committee, the Alpine Committee, the Sub-Committee for Alpine Rules and Control and Honorary Member of the Alpine Committee, Robert Faure played a leading role in Alpine Skiing. He also served as Vice President of the French Ski Federation from 1948 to 1952, Secretary General from 1976 to 1980 and editor of "Ski Français" from 1951 to 1974, among various other positions. |
