Nordic Combined: French triumph in Kuusamo

Week 2 of the new FIS World Cup season saw the Nordic Combined circus move close to the polar circle in Finland’s Kuusamo. After the impressive Norwegian display on home ground in Lillehammer, the second weekend was a big success for the French team. Jason Lamy Chappuis was back on top after second and fourth places in Lillehammer. The 26-year-old Frenchman won the individual Gundersen competition with a margin of 13 seconds ahead of last year’s winner Magnus Krog from Norway while Sebastien Lacroix (FRA) completed the podium.

On 2nd December, a team sprint was on the schedule, which Team Austria I with Bernhard Gruber and Mario Stecher won. The duo finished 5,4 seconds before Team Norway (Klemetsen/Kokslien). Third was taken by Sebastien Lacroix and Jason Lamy Chappuis from France who both stood on the podium for the second day in a row.

Just as the previous weekend, Håvard Klemetsen was a force of nature on the jumping hill. He won Friday's provisional competition round, and had the longest jumps in both ski jumping parts of the weekend. On the track, Sebastien Lacroix and Björn Kircheisen had the fastest times both competition days.

French head coach Etienne Gouy stated after his team’s success: "It was beautiful and magical. Jason was so strong once more and is back in the yellow bib. We didn't expect this to happen so soon! For Sebastien, it was finally the podium! Tactically, everything was perfect and definitely gives reason to hope for similar results in the future."

After a free weekend due to the cancellation of the Erzurum (TUR) events, the Nordic Combined World Cup will resume with two individual Gundersen competitions in Ramsau (AUT) on 15th and 16th December.
