Passing of Tomii Sumihiro and Ilmar Aluvee

Passing of Tomii Sumihiro and Ilmar Aluvee

Tomii Sumihiro (JPN), former Alpine skier, passed away on 19th January at the age of 63 years after a long struggle with illness. A long-time FIS Alpine Technical Delegate and a leader of Japan’s alpine ski racing society, Tomii Sumihirowas an Olympian of 1972 and 1976 and led the Japanese National Ski team as head coach for numerous years.

In addition, Ilmar Aluvee (EST) FIS Judge and a former head coach and athlete of the Estonian Nordic Combined team passed away on 17th January at the young age of 43 years following a work accident. During his active years, he participated in the 1994 Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer (NOR) in addition to numerous FIS World Cup races.

In their roles as Technical Delegate and Judge, both have delivered great contributions and commitment to FIS and will be sorely missed.

FIS wishes to express its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Tomii Sumihiro and Ilmar Aluvee.
