Snowboarding: Format revisions For the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup, the season will already begin on 27th-28th August in Cardrona, New Zealand, with the first halfpipe events, to then continue in Europe (Landgraaf and London) in October. Additionally the FIS Council appointed the Turkish Ski Association with Erzerum as organizer of the 2013 FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships. The 2012 edition of the Junior Worlds will be staged by Sierra Nevada (SPA). Moreover, the Council approved a revised format for the finals of halfpipe competitions, as well as the introduction of a 100 point judging system. In addition, a jam session (formula 1 qualifying) was introduced as the third possible format for the qualification to the finals in snowboard cross. It was also confirmed that the finals in SBX will be conducted in heats of 6 riders in the finals for at least 50% of the future World Cup events. In big air finals, minimum twelve men and six ladies will participate in future competitions. Only the two highest individual scores will count if three jumps are performed and if two jumps are performed, the highest individual score will count. In the parallel disciplines, the newest format is known as the 3-X. Mostly for the PSL, this format will see three riders competing against each other at the same time. |
