Ludvik Zajc passes away

Ludvik Zajc passes away

FIS sends its sincere condolences to families and friends of Ludvik Zajc (SLO) who passed away last week Monday after a long illness at the age of 68. The funeral will take place on Thursday 28th July at 2pm (CET).

On 9th June, Ludvik Zajc was included in the elite circle of people awarded with the Holmenkollen Medal for special achievement in Nordic sports. Zajc, born in 1943 in Slovenia, competed for Yugoslavia and participated in the 1964 Games in Innsbruck and the 1968 Games in Grenoble. Ludvik Zajc was also the national coach for Yugoslavia, Slovenia, Italy and Norway. His first period at the Norwegian Ski Association started in 1980 and he has been devoted to Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined in Norway since then. Only a few, if any, have been involved with more Championship medals than him.

With his knowledge and attitude, Ludvik Zajc lifted Norway as a Ski Jumping nation from a poor level in the beginning of the 1980s to being the best Ski Jumping nation at the 1982 World Ski Championships in Oslo. His principles of training and his Ski Jumping philosophy are still being practiced today and are considered amongst the best. The legacy of Ludvik Zajc will be visible for a long time. His career ended where it started, with the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo, in 2011.
