Lamy Chappuis close to 2nd overall World Cup victory

The DKB FIS Nordic Combined World Cup has travelled from Seefeld (AUT) to Chaux-Neuve (FRA) for a final January weekend of racing before the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. The current World Cup leader Jason Lamy Chappuis of France, racing on home snow, won both races there last year and has been on the podium four times out of the last four races since the DKB FIS Nordic Combined World Cup returned to Chaux-Neuve in 2009. He will be challenged by Norway's Magnus Moan who made a statement last weekend in Seefeld in reaching the podium three times in three races, winning the team event with his compatriots and one of the two individual events, as well.

Moan likes Chaux-Neuve, its track, atmosphere and the cheering crowds. The spectators like the Scandinavian star because of his easy-going character. They will like him even more because he's not a big rival to home-town hero Jason Lamy Chappuis in the overall rankings.

The Frenchman leads in the overall World Cup standings, 170 points in front of Mikko Kokslien (NOR) and needs to extend this advantage to a minimum of 201 points to ensure he will start his preparations for the World Championships as overall winner of the DKB FIS Nordic Combined World Cup. After the two competitions in Chaux-Neuve, only two more are going to be held in Lahti (FIN) in mid-March, so it is possible that the Frenchman could clinch the title on home territory.

In Chaux-Neuve, the "New Hills Tournament" of the Nordic Combined comes to its conclusion after previous stops at Schonach and Seefeld,. The new Ski Jumping facility is a HS118, the first jump was made by Jason Lamy Chappuis on 14th December 2010 over the distance of 115m.
