Speed Skiing World Cup moves to Sweden

Speed Skiing World Cup moves to Sweden

Whilst the other FIS World Cup tours have now concluded, the FIS Speed Skiing season is just reaching its midway point. The world's fastest skiers will be headed to Sweden this weekend to compete at the two Swedish events in Idre and Sälen from 2-6th April.

The 2011 World Cup began in early March in Sun Peaks (CAN) and continued in Finnish Salla last weekend. So far the men's races have been dominated by Italy's Origone brothers both of whom have collected two victories. The older brother, and world record holder, Simone Origone was fastest in Canada, only to be beaten twice by brother Ivan in Finland. On the ladies' side, Sweden's Sanna Tidstrand, has made a successful comeback after a knee injury and has won all races in this year's World Cup so far. She will be challenged on home turf by reigning World Cup champion and teammate Linda Baginski.

After Sweden, the Speed Skiing season will conclude with the World Cup Finals in Vars (FRA) from 8th-11th April before the season highlight will take place with the FIS Speed Skiing World Championships 2011 in Verbier (SUI) from 18th to 21st April 2011.
