Long discussions in Nordic Combined Sub-Committee meetings

On the initiative of FIS Council Member and Chairman of the Nordic Combined Committee Roman Kumpost (CZE), a Nordic Combined Sub-Committee for Officials, Rules and Control was established and the Nordic Combined Executive Board re-activated last autumn. These two groups met last weekend in Zurich during the Nordic Combined Sub-Committee Meetings. The analysis of the last season and discussion about the next required hours of - sometimes controversial - deliberation at the traditional FIS meeting location at Hilton Hotel Zürich Airport.

There are some new, let's say: revolutionary, ideas on the table. Because of the need to reduce the competitor field, one of the ideas being considered is a qualification system connected with the Provisional Competition Round (PCR). New formats were also discussed, including proposed inclusion of a team sprint and a second Individual format from next season.

The 2011/12 DKB FIS Nordic Combined World Cup calendar seems solid again. With competitions in Almaty, Nordic Combined should conquer a new emerging market in winter sports, Kazakhstan, next winter

One of the strengths of FIS in Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined is the so called "funnel system" which allows all member nations to actively participate in the decision-making procedure. Their feedback is due in May in good time before the Portoroz Calendar Conference.
