Speed Skiing gold to Duboc-Revol and Origone

The FIS Speed Skiing World Championships closed in Verbier (SUI) on 21st April 2011. The finals, which were moved to Thursday due to inclement weather on Wednesday, were very tightly contested. The men's title was won by Simone Origone, Italy whilst the ladies's champion was Karine Duboc-Revol, France. In the SDH (competed with regular downhill equipment) category, the winner was Markus Münzer of Austria.

The defending 2009 world champion Karine Dubouchet-Revol reclaimed her title with a speed of 204,05 km/h. Linda Baginski of Sweden took the world championship silver, leaving teammate, 2011 World Cup champion Sanna Tidstrand with the bronze.

In the men's competition, the season domination by the Origone brothers continued, with Simone again beating the younger brother Ivan for victory. It was his fourth world championships gold medal, just weeks after his seventh World Cup victory. With 211.670 km/h Simone was almost 2km/h faster than brother Ivan. The Frenchman Bastien Montès completed the podium in 3rd.
