Nordic Combined TDs return to the school bank
The biannual FIS Technical Delegate (TD) Seminar for Nordic Combined took place from 22nd-25th June in Otepää (EST), the host of the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2011 and the annual FIS Cross-Country World Cup presented by Viessmann. 37 TDs, seven candidates and several officials from the Estonian Ski Association reviewed the latest rule changes and took the opportunity of exchanging experiences collected during the last two years. Thanks to the Estonian Ski Association and especially Roomet Pikkor, the TDs and candidates were able to conduct their practical work sessions in the reconstructed facilities at the Tehvandi venue.
In addition to the three days of practical training, the TDs took a test with questions on rules, statistics and general FIS issues, while candidates passed their TD examinations.
"The work of the TDs is getting more and more extensive because of the increasing professionalism of the sport, growing TV requirements and wishes of the public. Additionally the preparation of the jumping hill the cross-country courses have become increasingly challenging for the Organizers with the changes in climate. As a result, it is very important that our TDs remain very well-educated," said Uli Wehling, FIS Race Director for Nordic Combined who led the seminar together with Günter Csar, Chairman of the newly-founded Nordic Combined Sub-Committee for Officials, Rules and Control.
The culmination of the seminar was the traditional Viking evening led by Club president Kai Arne Ringen. The Viking Club, which was founded in 1991, includes all Nordic Combined TDs and has the task of supporting the discipline of Nordic Combined and the Nordic Combined community in all its aspects. After the training session, a memorable social evening with an ‘entry examination' of the newly-baked TDs took place in Otepää.
