Head and Fischer lead Brand Rankings The ski manufacturer brand rankings of the FIS Alpine and Cross-Country World Cups provide interesting information about the ski brands that accompany the athletes all year long. This ranking is based on the results of the top six athletes in each World Cup event. In the 2011/12 Audi FIS Ski World Cup Alpine season, Head finished ahead of Salomon in the overall combined rankings (ladies & men) with 7630 points to 5240 while capturing five globes, more than any other ski brand this winter. Atomic is ranked 3rd in the overall standings with 4980 points. Altogether there were 12 ski brands ranked. With overall World Cup winner Lindsey Vonn on their team, Head beat the contenders by more than 2000 points in the overall ladies ranking. Also Maria Hoefl-Riesch, third in the overall ranking, skis on Head. Head racers won or placed on the podium in ten of the twelve Alpine events this season and the company's strategy of contracting superstars seems to be paying off. Rossignol is the ladies' runner-up, ahead of Atomic. On the men's side, Head was beaten by Salomon by 1190 points. Compared to last season, Salomon climbed three spots up on the ranking, much thanks to Beat Feuz who lost the overall World Cup victory to Marcel Hirscher only at the Finals in Schladming. Hirscher skis on Atomic, which dropped a place in the men's rankings from 2nd to 3rd this season. For full details, click here. In Cross-Country, the 2011/2012 season was again dominated by one brand in all standings and that was Fischer. The Austrian ski manufacturer repeated victory in the overall ladies' and men's standings. The second most successful brand was Rossignol while Madshus claimed third place. Fischer dominated the men's overall rankings, thanks to such excellent racers as Dario Cologna, Devon Kershaw, Petter Northug jr., Eirik Brandsdal and others. On the ladies' side Fischer also won the most points with a team including Marit Bjoergen (nine individual victories and overall World Cup winner), Justyna Kowalczyk (Tour de Ski winner) Kikkan Randall and Therese Johaug, just to mention a few. In the sprint ranking, too, it was Fischer that occupied the highest ranks both on ladies' and men's side. For more details click here. |
