Official kick off for Schladming 2013

Official kick off for Schladming 2013

A special spectacle was about to take place in Greenland. The Organizers of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 in Schladming initially chose the capital of Greenland, Nuuk, as the venue for the official kick off of the final count down to the highlight of the next ski racing winter. Greenland is the largest island in the world and belongs to Denmark. Due to poor weather however the event was moved to Iceland on the last minute.

Peter Schröcksnadel, President of the Austrian Ski Association, was planning to show with the action in Greenland how green and sustainable the World Championships in Schladming will be. 100 personalities that are known in the White Circus are travelling with the OeSV to participate in the promotion of the event. Included are Hans Knauss, Alexandra Meissnitzer, Michi Dorfmeister, Annemarie Moser-Pröll and Stephan Eberharter. From the active racers, Austrians Michaela Kirchgasser, Philipp Schörghofer, Hannes Reichelt, Max Franz and Romed Baumann are also showing their support.

Actions of this nature have a history with the Austrian Ski Association that promoted the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1999 in Ramsau and the 2011 Alpine Event in St. Anton with a promotional kick-off in Dubai.

Following a dinner reception, the Greenland project will be introduced on Thursday followed by the signing of a cooperation agreement whilst Friday will see a special Ski Festival take place.
