Åre joins Club 5+ The Portoroz 2011 FIS Calendar Conference also saw the traditional spring meeting of the Club5+ association of classic Audi FIS Ski World Cup Organizers. At the Portoroz meeting, the Club accepted its 15th member as Åre of Sweden joined the organization. "We are very happy to welcome Åre into the Club 5", said Club5 president Srecko Medven." Åre is a traditional organizer with a lot of experience which provides added value to the organization." Åre has organized 73 FIS ladies and men's World Cup races since 1969, including six World Cup Finals and two World Championships (1954 and 2007). "We learned a lot during last season and we want to continue to improve our organizational skills", said Medven. Club 5+ plans to host a workshop in the fall in Adelboden with best practice cases to be presented by selected organizers. "We are well aware of our responsibility as the leading organizers of the Alpine World Cup to continue to improve ski sport." Club 5+ also met with representatives of the Association of International Ski Journalists (A.I.J.S. - Association Internationale des Journalistes de Ski) in Portoroz. Gernot Mussner, A.I.J.S. president, and Michael Schuen, a vice-president, discussed a new accommodation system for journalists who permanently travel with the tour. The 15 members of Club5+ that was established in 1986. are Kitzbühel, Wengen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Val d'Isère, Gardena-Gröden, Alta Badia, Cortina d‘Ampezzo, Kranjska Gora, Maribor, Lake Louise, Schladming, Adelboden, Kvitfjell, St.Moritz and Åre. |
