Schladming all set for “Ski Festival with Heart”

Schladming all set for “Ski Festival with Heart”

Austria’s Schladming is more than ready to kick off the crown jewel event of Alpine Skiing, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. On 4th February, FIS President Gian Franco Kasper will officially unveil the event at the Opening Ceremony which will begin at 18:30 CET in the Planai Finish Area.

“Since Alpine Skiing is the number one sport in Austria, these World Championships will be a truly successful event with a special charm”, acknowledged the Croatian champion Ivica Kostelic, whilst US star Lindsey Vonn is looking forward to “a fantastic fan atmosphere”.

Athletes representing 72 nations have been entered to participate in the second FIS Alpine World Ski Championships staged in Schladming after 1982. 48 FIS World Championship medals will be awarded for the five ladies' and men's individual events as well as the co-ed nations' team event.

The competitions will begin with the ladies super-G on Tuesday, 5th February, followed by the super-G for the men on Wednesday, 6th February 2013.

From a TV perspective, more than 600 million spectators are expected to follow the Championships.  Host Broadcaster ORF has spared no efforts to deliver top quality, unbiased international coverage to the audience in close cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Local Organising Committee and FIS. Using around 100 cameras featuring the most advanced technologies, ORF will broadcast more than 65 hours live coverage from Schladming.

EBU's marketing partner Tridem Sports already confirmed in October 2012 that the championships were sold out for sponsoring opportunities. The international group of sponsors is led by presenting sponsor Audi, along with the official timing sponsor Longines and the main sponsors Vattenfall, Halti, Milka, Gösser, Uniqa and Deichmann.
