Fiemme 2013 all set for Nordic Worlds
On Wednesday, 20th February, the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships presented by Viessmann will get underway in Val di Fiemme (ITA) with an official Opening Ceremony in the city of Trento. Today, one week prior to the event, the Trentino region could not have asked for better conditions to welcome all athletes, teams, guests, officials and spectators in the valley that has been blanketed by abundant snowfall over the past few days.
The Championships will see 12 days of action-packed competitions, featuring 21 medal events in Cross-Country Skiing, Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined at the two stadiums at Lago di Tesero and Predazzo. Athletes from 56 nations have been entered, with the first title event, the Cross-Country sprints in the classical technique, being held on 21st February.
“These are the third FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme within 20 years. By also staging more than 100 FIS World Cup competitions, the Organisers have already proven their ability to organise high class sports events over and over again. The functional facilities have now been completely renewed and upgraded. We are expecting outstanding competitions in a very friendly environment”, stated Walter Hofer, FIS Ski Jumping Race Director.
32 TV channels will be broadcasting the event live from Val di Fiemme with 64 on-site commentators reporting in more than a dozen languages. Around 10,000 persons have been accredited and over 250,000 spectators are expected to watch the events in the stadiums and on the courses.
In addition to the sports competitions, side events of all kinds, including live music and dance shows, will be filling up the days and nights, with the prize giving ceremonies taking place in the Cavalese town centre each evening.
