Two weeks to FIS Snowboard World Champs

Two weeks to FIS Snowboard World Champs

In just two weeks, the Snowboard season's highlight will go down in Quebec City and Stoneham, Canada. At the 10th FIS Snowboard World Championships - the first ones to be hosted at two venues - riders from all over the world will battle for eleven titles and a total of 33 medals.

The Championships, which will be held for the second time in Canada after Whistler, BC, hosted the 2005 edition, will feature two competition weekends.

On the first one, from 17th through 20th January, the freestyle snowboarding titles will be awarded. Slopestyle will start things off with the qualifiers on 17th and the finals on 18th at Stoneham while on 19th January, the big air plays an integral part of the official opening ceremony in Quebec City.

The first weekend wraps up on the 2nd World Snow Day (January 20th) with the halfpipe contest held in the extended and improved Olympic format pipe at the Stoneham resort.

In the course of a few days, the venue which is located some 30 minutes by car from Quebec City will undergo a change from freestyle to race boarding as well as snowboard cross.

On January 24th the SBX time trials will determine the finalists to compete in thrilling full speed heats on 26th.  The knock-out rounds will be framed by the parallel races with the PGS taking place on 25th and the PSL on 27th. The PSL event has the potential to make history: Austria's Benjamin Karl, who won the PSL title in 2009 and 2011, might become the first man to clinch gold for the third time in a row. Since 1996, only one female has nailed such a three-peat: Doriane Vidal (FRA) kept hold to her halfpipe title from 2001 to 2003 and 2005.
