Grass Ski World Cup terminates in Rettenbach
On 1st and 2nd September, Rettenbach, a community in the Southern Burgenland of Austria staged the finals of the FIS Grass Ski World Cup 2012.
Featuring a world class starting field, some 2000 spectators saw the elite of Grass Skiing racing in slalom, super-G and super combined events.
While Eduardo Frau (ITA) triumphed in the slalom and super combined races, Austria’s Kristin Hetfleisch finished ahead of Illaria Sommavilla (ITA) in the super-G and super combined events.
Putting an end to this year’s Grass Skiing season, the crystal globe for the World Cup winner went to Eduardo Frau (ITA) who dominated the men’s standings ahead of Czech Republic’s top athlete Jan Nemec who suffered from an injury during a competition in Iran. Austria’s Michael Stocker ended the season in third place.
On the ladies’ side, Illaria Sommavilla (ITA) clinched the crystal globe after her strongest competitor Ingrid Hirschhofer (AUT) was injured in a training session in San Sicario (ITA) and could not finish the season. Austria’s Kristin Hetfleisch and Daniela Krückel came in second and third to the joy of the local fans.
Next year’s World Cup schedule already promises formidable challenges with exciting battles between the top nations of Italy, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and Iran.
