For the fourth time, Zakopane, together with the Polish Ski Federation and the Tatra Ski Association, is bidding to be awarded the right to host the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2017. Located at the foot of Giewont Mountain, the city is the cradle of Polish skiing and has organized FIS World Championships three times (1929, 1939, 1962) in addition to numerous FIS World Cup events. This has highly influenced the development of the sports infrastructure and non-sports events in the city and the region. Modern ski facilities, hotels and roads are considered to lay a solid foundation for hosting the FIS Nordic Worlds in 2017.
In addition, the previous FIS events in Zakopane have reflected a unique spirit with the enthusiasm of ski fans and their admiration for top world athletes contributing to a great atmosphere.
