FIS Athletes’ Commission at 2012 Congress

FIS Athletes’ Commission at 2012 Congress

In conjunction with the 48th FIS Congress in Korea 2012 last week, the FIS Athletes’ Commission gathered for its annual meeting. The members present were Kilian Albrecht (BUL) and Anja Paerson (SWE) – Alpine Skiing, Ryan Blais (CAN), Dave Duncan (CAN) replacing Katrin Huttary (AUT) – Freestyle Skiing, Mateusz Ligocki (POL) – Snowboard, and Kikkan Randall (USA) – Cross-Country Skiing.

The Commission's discussions particularly focused on the enhanced integration of the FIS Athletes’ Commission within FIS.

In this area, the Athletes Commission has made significant progress as the inclusion of a member on the Executive Board of each of the FIS disciplines has now been approved by the FIS Council.

Furthermore, the FIS Athletes’ Commission is currently drafting its terms of reference, to serve as a structured and official guideline to be submitted for approval to the FIS Council in the autumn.

With new elections for the members of the FIS Athletes’ Commission to take place during the World Championships next year, the Commission would also like to encourage competing athletes to actively represent the interests and concerns of athletes and act as their voice within FIS. During the various FIS World Championships in 2013, one candidate per nation per discipline may stand for election.

FIS Newsflash will publish a call for proposals for the elections of the new FIS Athletes’ Commission in due course.
