At age 31, one might be tempted to suspect that Virginie Faivre is getting a little long in the tooth to be competing in the youthful arena of World Cup halfpipe tour. Anyone who would assume such, however, would be wrong.
While Virginie has been competing on the World Cup circuit since 2003, the 2012-13 year saw the diminutive Swiss lady put up some of the strongest results of her career, claiming three podiums, the World Championships halfpipe gold, and the Crystal Globe for top overall World Cup halfpipe skier of the year.
Her best result of 2012-13 World Cup season came at the Olympic test event in Sochi, with a win in challenging conditions at the venue that will host the inaugural Olympic ski halfpipe event in 2014.
In a career that boasts 11 World Cup podiums, two World Championships golds (in 2009 and 2013), and a Crystal Globe, Virginie has but one medal left to be won in order to complete her collection. With her win at the Sochi test event and the momentum carried over from last season, Virginie heads into Sochi 2014 looking like the favorite to take home sports' biggest prize.
