  • Mikael Kingsbury is the prototypical Canadian freestyler. Young, fast, and from Quebec, the 20 year old moguler went, in two years, from being the 2010 FIS Freestyle World Cup rookie of the year to claiming the 2012 freestyle overall Crystal Globe for top skier in all disiplines. Along the way Kingsbury took 2nd-place in the 2011 world championhip, and then tied Jeremy Bloom's (USA) record for most consecutive wins by a male freestyle skier when he won six World Cups in row to start off the 2011-12 season.

Not that it was ever in doubt, but Kingsbury's win at the first moguls event of the season in Ruka strongly suggests that 2011-12 was not a fluke. With another birthday under his belt and greater maturity, it seems safe to say that Kingsbury will continue to be the one to beat for any freestyle skier looking to take freestyle's highest honor away from the King.
