  • Only 17 years of age, Tiril Sjaastad Christiansen has already amassed a competition resume many far more experienced skiers could only dream of.

In 2012, she registered a couple of notable runner-up results, taking 2nd at both the Junior Olympic Games and the Junior World Championships, while also claiming victory at the New Zealand National Championships. In 2013, however, she kicked down the door to the elite level of the slopestyle world, taking gold at her first ever X-Games in Aspen, USA, silver at European X-Games in Tignes, FRA, and FIS Freestyle World Cup victories at Silvaplana, SUI, and at the 2013-14 season opener in Cardrona, NZL.

How pedigree makes her explosive introduction to the contest circuit less surprising. Tiril was raised in a skiing family - her grandfather, Asle Sjaastad was an eight-time Norwegian national champion in Alpine, her brother is professional biathlon athlete Vetledalen Sjaastad Christiansen - has been on skis essentially her entire life.

Hailing from Geilo, NOR, Tiril now resides in Lillehammer where she attends the Norwegian College of Elite Sport - a facility that allows her to train, compete, and travel when needed, all while she works to finish off the final years of highschool.

Whether it's her upbringing, her location and education in the upstart Freestyle hotbed of Norway, her unquestionable natural talent, or all of the above, Tiril has absolutely torn up the slopestyle circuit in the last couple of season, and will be looked upon as one of the favorites heading into Sochi in 2014.
