The connection between education and athletics is powerful. That was evident last Friday as Salt Lake City’s Westminster College honoured its 23 members of Team USA, three of them freestyle skiers who brought home medals from the Sochi Winter Games.

Besides Olympic Champions Maddie Bowman (halfpipe) and Joss Christensen (slopestyle) also slopestyle skiing silver medallist Devin Logan was one of the nominees.

“The night I won was the craziest of my life - I was in tears of confusion. I have those memories to look back on but I also need to look forward to my future. I'm so happy to have Westminster College here to understand that and help us look forward and think about our future. All of us on the Olympic Team are so happy to come back to such a great college,” Bowman said.

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association has developed a partnership with Westminster since 2005, providing an opportunity for athletes training at the USSA Center of Excellence to be able to attend college.

Westminster student athletes represented around 25% of Team USA's skiers and snowboarders.
