  • After getting turned on to ski cross in 2002, it wasn't long before France's Ophelie David became one the sport's greatest stars. After winning three quick World Cup ski cross crystal globes as the best overall ladies' racer, and a bronze medal at the 2005 world championships, the Alpe d'Huez native went on to claim victory at the 2007 FIS Freestyle World Ski Championship, solidifying her place as one of the toughest competitors in the sport.

Since then, her domination on the ski cross tour has only continued, as "Ophie" has gone on to rack up four X-Games gold medals, one X-Games silver, a total of four world championships medals, and a streak of crystal globe-winning seasons that stretched from 2004-2010. Were it not for an unfortunate crash at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games that forced her to settle for 9th place, she would have won everything there was to win in ski cross before some of the tour's current top competitors had even entered a World Cup race.

With 62 career podiums (26 of which are victories) David is by far and away the greatest ladies' ski cross racer of all time. Her stats will be the benchmark by which all others are measured in the future, just as her poise, tenacity, and incredible talent are the benchmark by which all others must still measure themselves in the present, facing her in competition.

While now at the age of 40 David has slowed down somewhat in her competition schedule, skiing in only five events in 2015/16, she still has the skills to claim podiums, as her third-place result on home soil in Val Thorens last season can attest to.

David's seventh world championships are just over the horizon, with the Sierra Nevada 2017 Freestyle World Ski Championships coming up in March, and there is every possibility that there we could see the greatest ski cross racer of all time add an incredible fifth medal to her already overflowing trophy case.
