  • Leader of the increasingly impressive Swedish ski cross team, Victor Oehling Norberg made good on the promise of his 2012/13 season the nest year by taking top World Cup honours and the 2013/14 Audi ski cross crystal globe.

Jumping from 54th overall in 2011/12 to third overall in 2013/14, Oehling Norberg announced to all that there was a new force to be reckoned with at the top of the ski cross world. By coming out in 2013/14 and taking top-10 results in eight of 11 events and claiming four podiums - including back-to-back second and third place finishes in Val Thorens (FRA) in January 2014 and a win on home soil in Are (SWE) - he made a strong case for himself as the best in the world even before he was awarded the crystal globe.

In 2014/15 he was oftentimes even better, claiming five podiums (including three straight victories in February) and a bronze medal at the Kreischberg 2015 World Ski Championships. However, three poor results in the final five races of the season insured he would not be able to defend his World Cup title, and he relinquished the globe to French star Jean Frederic Chapuis.

2015/16 saw Oehling Norberg start the season on an ominous note, as he was stretchered from the finish area of the first race in Montafon (AUT) after experiencing severe back pain at the end of his semi-final heat. Incredibly, he was able to return the next weekend and claim victory at the second of back-to-back races in Innichen/San Candido (ITA).

Unfortunately, his back pain persisted, and after a DNS in Watles (ITA) and a 25th-place result in Nakiska (CAN) it looked like his season might become a write-off.

Once again that would prove to be false, however, and he would be able to recover impressively once again, finishing the final four competitions of the season with two podiums - including a gutsy win on home soil in Idre Fjall (SWE) - and ending up an almost-miraculous fourth overall on the final ski cross World Cup rankings.

With his understated intensity, powerful technique, and versatility, it seems clear that Oehling Norberg is a skier designed for the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup tour. And, at just 26 years of age, it seems clear also that he should be one of the top competitors on the tour for years to come.
