Easily one of the fastest skiers on the World Cup tour, it has taken Georgia Simmerling some time to translate that speed into results on the FIS Audi ski cross World Cup tour since moving over from Alpine in the 2011/12 season. However, with consistent work on her technique, awareness, and passing abilities, Georgia in 2013/14 established herself as one of the top racers on the circuit.
Georgia finishes 2013/14 with seven top ten finishes and two podiums - back-to-back third place finishes in Are (SWE) and La Plagne (FRA) to close out the season. Picking up right where she left off last year with a second place finish at the first World Cup of the 2014/15 season in Nakiska (CAN), Georgia looks set to take a run at the podium at the Kreischberg 2015 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard championships.
Though the Canadian team is only fielding two ladies on the Audi ski cross tour this season, those two ladies are Georgia and Olympic champion and 2014 crystal globe winner Marielle Thompson. With two athletes of that caliber, podiums should not be hard to come by for the Canadians in 2014/15.
