The 2015-16 season got underway with the first Europa Cup event and the Austrian Nationals, both staged on the Pitztal glacier, Austria.

Canada's Kelsey Serwa and Kevin Drury celebrated the win in this winter's first EC ski cross event.

The women's 2014 Sochi silver medallist crossed the line ahead of reigning world champion Andrea Limbacher and Russia's Sofia Smirnova last Sunday.

In the men's final heat, Drury relegated Austria's Robert Winkler and Thomas Zangerl to second and third.

The day before also brought some ski cross action which unfortunately was reduced to the time trials.

Unlike the Europa Cup, the Austrian nationals saw some bad weather coming in which forced organisers to wrap up the race for the title with the qualification results.

As a consequence, Andrea Limbacher as second and therefore best ranked Austrian qualifier earned her career's second while Andreas Matt was happy about his first.

“It could be worse than kicking off the new season with a win,” said Matt with a wink.

Limbacher, the new female title holder added: “It would have been nice to actually compete for the title in real heats, but we all knew the weather forecast and are happy that we were able to run the qualifiers at least. The title means a lot to me, and I'm happy about it.”
