    50 Years of Alpine Ski World Cup – Sestriere in a league of its own!

    Nearly two hundred ski areas around the globe hosted at least once a World Cup event since the very first competition at Berchtesgaden on Jan.5th - 1967 – but only five from the fifteen places from that opening World Cup season are still ‘active’ nowadays. In the alphabetical order there are Adelboden (SUI), Kitzbühel (AUT) Madonna di Campiglio (ITA), Sestriere (ITA) and Wengen (SUI).

    On 15th February 2016, Hafjell Freepark welcomed the cross athletes for snowboard and ski cross competitions. Perfect sunny weather with mild temperatures created the perfect backdrop for the young Olympians to compete for top honours.

    While the alpine snowboarders are currently going big in Japan with two races this weekend, the circuit will miss one rider who won the last pgs staged in the land of the rising sun: Nicolien Sauerbreij (NED). The 2010 Olympic champion recently retired - reason enough for us to talk to her.
