Benjamin Karl dominates PGS qualifiers in Carezza
Austria's Golden boy Benjamin Karl has set his rivals for the PGS crown in Carezza, ITA, under pressure. The Silver medalist of Vancouver 2010 nailed his two qualifying runs finishing in the top spot with a very comfortable lead.
Actually, it wasn't even a comfortable lead but a bold statement. The top gun was almost two seconds faster than runner up Lukas Mathies (AUT), who secured his best ever World Cup qualifying result.
From Mathies on, all other riders came in just divided by hundredths of a second.
On the women's side, Julia Dujmovits, who had won the last race just like Karl in Telluride, was the fastest lady to proceed to the finals of the top 16. The Burgenland resident came in almost one second faster than her team mate Claudia Riegler, who had another 7 tenth advantage over Marion Kreiner (AUT).
The last one to qualify was Julie Zogg (SUI), who edged off Corinna Boccacini (ITA) to 17th rank after both had to undergo a decisive run for the finals sitting on a shared 16th spot after qualifying and elimination run.
