The FIS Congress has been in full swing since Sunday, 31st May. About 1’100 persons are participating at the 49th edition of the FIS Congress which is of great significance, focusing on the development of the FIS disciplines and steering the direction of the International Ski Federation with all its many facets, to achieve success in a modern and innovative form now and in the future.

At the conclusion of the first day on 1st June, delegates were invited to an official opening at a Welcome Evening on invitation of the Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation.

The participants were treated to typical Spanish tapas and refreshments whilst words of welcome were given by FIS Council Member Eduardo Roldan, Enric Ticó, President of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, Maite Fandos, Deputy Mayor for Quality of Life, Equality, Youth & Sports, Ana Munoz, General Director of the Spanish Sports Council. FIS President Gian Franco Kasper then officically greeted all participants and guests and opened the FIS Congress week

Under the Barcelona sunset, it was a unique opportunity for the participants coming from 77 different nations, to gather in one place and spend some time with friends in the FIS family, many of whom only meet up every two years.

The evening will see the much anticipated election of the FIS World Championship Organisers 2018/19.
