Dominique Maltais and Nick Baumgartner top qualifier

16 February 2011 20:02

World Cup leader Dominique Maltais and X-Games Gold medalist Nick Baumgartner seem to be able to keep hold of the momentum.

While Canada’s current top female rider is aiming for a four-peat in the World Cup, Baumgartner underlined his good shape by posting another career’s best qualifier time.

Maltais dominated the women’s field by riding down the course in Stoneham in 1:09.71 minutes. She thus had a massive lead of 1.20 seconds over runner-up Lindsey Jacobellis (USA, 1:10.91), who is no one else but the reigning World Champion. Maria Ramberger (AUT, 1:11.69) placed third, Olympic Silver medalist Deborah Anthonioz (FRA, 1:12.11) fourth.

In contrary, the men’s result was a closer one. Baumgartner (USA), who needed only 1:07.23 minutes for the course peppered with 23 features, was only .22 seconds ahead of tied Canadian riders Francois Boivin and Robert Fagan (1:07.45). Markus Schairer (AUT, 1:07.55) ended up fourth thus being the fastest European rider today.
