The FIS Council held its Autumn Meeting at the FIS Headquarters in Oberhofen (SUI) all day on Sunday 3rd November and dealt with a full agenda, including preparations for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, reports from Organising Committees for future FIS World Championships, the appointment of technical officials, proposals from the FIS Technical Committees with calendar updates and rules, as well as preparations for the 49th International Ski Congress in 2014. 

The main decisions of the Council in Oberhofen include the following:

Decisions directly related to FIS competition activities

FIS World Cup calendars 2013/2014 to 2016/2017

Minor modifications to the FIS World Cup Calendars for the 2013/2014 season proposed by the respective Technical Committees were approved, the final versions of which are available on the FIS website. 

Of these changes, the most notable is the inclusion of the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup team event in Innsbruck on 25th February 2014 (replacing Moscow).

FIS World Championships and Junior World Championships

The competition schedules for the 2015 FIS World Championships in Falun, SWE (Nordic Events), Vail Beaver Creek, USA (Alpine Events) and Kreischberg (Freestyle Skiing / Snowboard Events) were finalised.

In Falun the ladies 30km and men’s 50km will be carried out as mass start events as is customary for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and not as interval starts. 

The competition programme for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2015 in Vail/Beaver Creek (USA) was modified to enable two full days of downhill training for each gender.
The Council appointed the following Organisers:

- Rasnov (ROU), FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2016, following its successful hosting of the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2013

- Klinovec (CZE), FIS Snowboard Junior World Ski Championships in 2017

- San Sicario (ITA), FIS Grass Ski Junior World Championships in 2014

Olympic Winter Games

The progress report from Sochi 2014 in regard to the preparations gave the Council cause for optimism that the first ever Olympic Winter Games in a great wintersports nation, Russia will be a real success. 

World Cup 2013/2014 and World Championships 2015 prize money

The minimum values of prize money for the 2014/2015 World Cup season and FIS World Championships 2015 were confirmed at the same levels as 2013/14.

Technical Committees

A number of adaptions to the technical rules were made, details of which have been published under the discipline committee reports. Additionally:

Ski Jumping

The Council will submit the Ski Jumping Committee’s proposal to the FIS Congress for the IOC’s consideration of the inclusion of the mixed team event on the programme of the Olympic Winter Games from 2018.

Nordic Combined

The rules for the Nordic Combined Triple were adopted and the Committee commended for the proactive approach it has undertaken to promote and develop the discipline.

Other Decisions

FIS will submit a proposal to the other six International Winter Sports Federations to sign a resolution against organising the FIFA World Cup during the winter sports season in 2022.

Affiliation of new members - Membership

The Council accepted the provisional membership applications from Paraguay and Guyana, subject to the approval of the FIS Congress in 2014.

FIS Committees – Athletes Commission

The elected Athlete Commission representative present at the Executive Board or main Technical Committee shall have the right to vote, irrespective of their nationality.
Bring Children to Snow Campaign – FIS World Snow Day

The third FIS World Snow Day will take place on 19th January 2014 following the success of the inaugural decision in 2012. To date more than 650’000 participants have taken part in an event.

49th FIS Congress in Barcelona 2014

The Council prepared the FIS Congress 2014 that will take place from 31st May to 5th June in Barcelona (SPA).
