FIS Tour de Ski reaches halfway mark
After the opening stages in Oberhof (GER) and the next two in Lenzerheide (SUI) the Tour de Ski has arrived in the South Tyrol region.
On 3rd January 2014 pursuit competitions will take place in the free-technique for men and ladies in Dobbiaco.
For the men, Norwegian Martin Johnsrud Sundby comes in as the overall leader in the Tour. “I look forward to the next stages, especially the race from Cortina - Dobbiaco. I feel fit and will give everything on the 35 kilometer long pursuit,” Sundby said.
Sundby leads over Calle Halfvarsson (SWE) and Alex Harvey (CAN) who are second and third in the standings, respectively. Cross-Country ace Petter Northug (NOR) follows in fourth position.
It is also a Norwegian that is the Tour overall leader in the ladies' competition, namely Astrid Jacobsen. Currently, she leads over Finnish skier Kerttu Niskanen and her compatriot Therese Johaug. "I think of the Tour de Ski from stage-to-stage. For me, the Tour de Ski is very important in terms of qualifying for the Olympics. As for the overall win, I see Therese Johaug has to be the favourite," Jacobsen stated.
The tour will conclude in Italy’s Val di Fiemme with an individual start competition on 4th January and the famous Final Climb on 5th January 2014.
