Franz Klammer turns 60
On 3rd December 2013, Franz Klammer celebrated his 60th birthday. Born in Mooswald, Carinthia, the Austrian skiing legend overwhelmingly dominated the downhill event for four consecutive FIS World Cup seasons (1975-78). At the 1976 Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck (AUT), he claimed the Olympic gold medal in the downhill event after caputing combined gold and downhill silver at the 1975 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in St. Moritz (SUI).
Starting his skiing career in 1972 at the age of 19, Klammer spent 13 seasons on the FIS World Cup circuit until he retired in 1985. He finished with 26 World Cup victories, 45 podiums and 87 top ten finishes. His downhill victories include four on the prestigious Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel (AUT).
