From 11th - 12th June 2014, FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard experts, representatives from FIS Marketing AG and Infront Sports & Media visited the site of the combined 2017 FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada (SPA).

The inspection served to review the preparations for the 25 medal competitions to be held in 2017 (provisional dates 6th-19th March) with specific focus on infrastructure, course development and the design of the finish areas.

Led by Eduardo Valenzuela, the Sierra Nevada 2017 Local Organising Committee together with the experts also specified the preliminary schedule and addressed TV distribution and commercial marketing issues.

Experienced Organising Committee

Spain’s largest ski resort has already been successfully tested as host of both disciplines during several FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Cup competitions, in addition to Junior World Championships, as well as the combined 2012/13 season World Cup finals in both disciplines. It therefore goes without saying that the Organising Committee - which also staged the 2006 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships - is very experienced in hosting major events.

"We are very pleased with all of the technical progress made to date, from the courses, to the competition programme and structure of the Organising Committee. The organisational team from the management and staff of Cetursa and Sierra Nevada look to be ready for the challenges ahead. I am also very satisfied with the detailed level of preparation we observed during our inspections and meetings," FIS Freestyle Coordinator Joseph Fitzgerald remarked.

Uwe Beier, FIS Snowboard Race Director added: "We are on the right track towards making this a great event. The Organising Committee is highly motivated and the slopes have been tested well during our past events. At this stage, naturally a number of items remain to be finalised. But once everything is completed, it will allow the world’s top riders to compete in an amazing environment in less than three-years-time."
